01 — The camcorder
Ten years old, one camcorder.

He was ten when his dad handed him a Canon FV30 camcorder. Star Wars and Indiana Jones had already done the damage. Nearly every day after that was spent in the backyard with his brother Nathan, filming themselves running around and learning filmmaking without knowing that’s what they were doing. In high school he took every film class there was, then premiered a zombie film he made for one of them. It sold out the school’s 50-seat theater.

02 — The bet
Quit the day job. Then the world shut down.

In November 2019 he quit his job as a Sony Experience Expert at Best Buy. A few months later, COVID shut the industry down. So he and Nathan started messaging artists, rappers and musicians directly and asking to make their music videos. It worked, and it became his first long sprint: more than 100 music videos, each one produced, shot and edited by Ryan, each one bigger than the last.

03 — The climb
The work most people skip.

Grip and 1st AC on commercials. Gaffer. Camera operator on events and features. Then Director of Photography on shorts, TV pilots and documentaries, until the call sheet said DP more often than not.

04 — Now
He gave it a name.

In 2024 he founded 5ECHOS, his production company and producing label, for brands, artists, agencies and directors: a 15-camera live show for Instagram with Katseye, music videos for Columbia and Sharptone, Gopuff’s New Year’s Eve with Wiz Khalifa and Rick Ross. He’s one of four founders of Dizzy Doom Media, home of Digital Lizards of Doom and Dizzy Doom Kids. And in 2024 he organized Cinema Connect, a night screening local filmmakers’ shorts, start to finish.

05 — The part he loves
Woah.
2 a.m. in the desert, rain coming down, a tarp over a truck bed full of gear because the Sprinter van was still a few years off. A camera dying mid-setup, fixed on set, and the day still made. A monitor, a take, and a whole crew saying “woah” at the same moment. That last one is the reason for all of it. He just loves making things.
